On February 16, 2021 at about 6:00 am, a large water line in the Meadow Park section of town ruptured. This caused a significant loss of stored water from our storage tanks. As our public works personnel repaired the main break in sub-freezing conditions, we began to recover and fill our storage tanks to an acceptable level. On the same date, at 11:00pm, we were notified by Walnut Creek SUD that they were having to turn off our water supply due to them having several power outages throughout their system. The City of Boyd purchases water from WCSUD to supplement our well capacity. Throughout the evening and into the next morning, we noticed a slight decline in water storage levels and calculated out a complete loss with 48 hours if significant conservation measures were not taken.
We posted conservation request multiple times yesterday February 16, 2021 at 9:30 am. and again at 4:30pm and once again at 5:30 pm.
A number of factors have contributed to this problem, but the bottom line is that the demand on our system has continued to consistently surpass our ability to replenish.
