Rodney Holmes moved to the Boyd area in 1982. He graduated from Boyd High School in 1985 and then attended the University of North Texas. He started his business career as a stocker/bagger at the Boyd Thriftee grocery store, which later became IGA, in 1986. He worked his way up to assistant manager, then store manager, then general manager of the entire company, overseeing the entire operations of 9 retail grocery stores. Throughout his retail career, he attended multiple classes and seminars on retail management and received multiple awards, including Employee of the Year twice. In 2011 he ventured out on his own by starting Holmes Distribution Company and becoming an Independent Operator for Mrs. Baird’s Bread, which he continues to oversee to this day. He is a Past Master of Boyd Masonic Lodge #479. He married Noelle Wolfe Holmes, a lifelong Boyd resident, in 1990. They moved into the Boyd City Limits in 2004, and he was appointed to the Boyd Parks Board in 2007 and the City Council in 2008. After being re elected to multiple terms, he was appointed Mayor by the City Council in 2016 and re elected in 2017.
